Week # 1A - Class Preparation
I chose this template for a few reasons. First, I like how it has the ability to append an image to the side of a blog post - a great way to tie a visual medium into the overall post content. This allows me to find relevant images and use them to draw the reader in - a picture is worth a thousand words, after all! If I find the right images to get their attention, I can pull them in to reading what the blog post is actually about, just from that one image.
Secondly, it's a straightforward, simple design that provides all the content I need people to see right on the main page. There's no digging around or trying to find where the content is or having to navigate around the webpage - instead, it's all right in the forefront, easy to see. That's very important, as you want people coming to your blog to be able to see your content first and foremost. Anything that detracts from that means you get less retention.
Lastly, I just like how the layout flows together and feels. I personally am a fan of simplistic designs with not a lot of fuss going on, with simple color patterns and easy-to-follow designs. They help me focus on what's important on the page - the content - and not the design and layout, which serves to accentuate and back up those blogs or posts made on it. Having a simple, easy to understand design is very important to me!
